McCormick Place ropes in more retail offerings - Restaurants News ...

(Crain's) ? McCormick Place has been bringing in more food vendors and amenities in the period since a new management company was hired to oversee the convention center.

American Express will open a lounge by the end of the summer, accessible to any Amex cardholder. Styled after airport lounges for frequent travelers, the American Express lounge will offer drinks, free Wi-Fi, and computer and printer access.

The lounge, intended to pinpoint conference attendees who might open an American Express open card for businesses, will be located in the grand concourse area of McCormick Place's south building.

McCormick Place also plans a new Starbucks, its third, to open at the same time as the lounge. It has already opened a new Jamba Juice and a La Brea Bakery.

SMG, the management company picked last year to run McCormick Place, is based in suburban Philadelphia. The company has other Chicago connections ? it has run Soldier Field since 1994.
