On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Community High School of Vermont held its graduation at the Brattleboro VFW.

As it has in the past, Brattleboro VFW Post 1034 generously hosted our graduation. Rosemary Hazelton made the arrangement and Dennis Levasseur prepared the facility. As he always does, Dennis set up the room with chairs, podium, sound, tables, ice, coffee and was supportive and helpful. The facility was filled to overflowing with attendees, and Dennis made it possible for everyone to feel welcome.

The graduation ceremony was one of the most moving we?ve ever had. The grads read aloud their letters to the Governor, and their stories were compelling. Many of the grads are the first in their families to graduate from high school.

The Community High School of Vermont is an accredited high school in the Vermont Department of Corrections. For our students, a high school diploma is the realization of a dream and an opening of opportunity for the future. To be able to honor them in a setting such as the Brattleboro VFW makes the experience dignified and honorable.

Thank you to Brattleboro VFW Post 1034 for helping make our graduations meaningful and joyous occasions.

The family of Gordon E. McNamee would like very much to thank the Wardsboro

Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept for their timely and professional dedication towards Gordon during his time of need. It will not be forgotten and we thank all involved so very much. We would also like to thank the staff of Grace Cottage Hospital; the nurses, aides, occupational & physical therapists and Dr. Tim Shafer for all their care and concern during Gordon?s time there. Your compassion and commitment to him were evident to us and we want you to know how very much you are all appreciated.

It seems we always hear of greed and selfishness on the news and in the paper. I would like to share a personal experience of kindness and heartfelt actions.

A couple of weeks ago I had to undergo open heart surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and not two weeks after my return home the new owners of the Newfane Market, Keith and Caroline, whom I had just recently met over the summer, put out a can for donations to help me and my family. As well, Roberta, a long-time employee of the store and friend to my family, personally came to my house and delivered a cardboard box full of food, knowing of our misfortune.

And one last thank you to my fellow neighbors. Knowing I?m the only driver in the house, they?ve been transporting my girlfriend and daughter back and forth to work and school.

I just want you all to know that there are communities around who care for each other. I feel blessed to live in one of the few. I just want to share my appreciation with all of those who have helped me in my time of need and give them all my word when the time comes and they need me I?ll be there.

Windham Child Care Association would like to thank everyone who made our 2nd annual benefit "Fall Into Art" such a success! Fall Into Art brought together the works of adult and children artists. One hundred pieces of framed art were on display at the River Garden in Brattleboro on October 19. Ticket-holders received a number that matched a piece of art, however those numbers were not revealed until the end of the evening.

We would like to thank our main sponsors - Ben & Jerry?s, C & S Wholesalers, New Chapter, Putney Paper, and WKVT Classic Hits 92.7. We?d also like to acknowledge the following people and businesses. Sunny?s Deli in West Brattleboro provided a delicious spread and the Windham Child Care Association Board of Directors brought luscious home-made sweets and desserts. Thank you to Draa Hobbs for a lively musical performance which kept the evening flowing. Walker?s Farm in Dummerston donated pumpkins and mums which brought the colors of fall to our event. Additionally, the Brattleboro Food Co-op, Mount Snow Ski Area, Penelope Wurr, The Shoe Tree, Everyone?s Books, Rentals Plus, Minuteman Press, Lotus Graphics, Verde and Sprout provided program and event support.

Thank you Jen?s Family Child Care, Happy Hands, Sunny Lane Daycare & Preschool, Sunflower Farm Preschool, Windham Evening Care, Meetinghouse School, The Grammar School, Early Education Services, Winston Prouty Center, The Garland School, and Timson Hill Preschool for collecting children?s art.

Thank you to staff and board members for dedicating numerous hours to create a fun event for our community. A special thank you to Fall Into Art?s committee members - Sarah DiNicola, Ken Brautigam, Beverly Stewart, Willie Gussin, Melanie Parker, and Kathie Gatto- Gurney.

Windham Child Care Association is a community child care services non-profit organization located in Brattleboro. It has been providing child care referrals, helping families access Vermont?s child care financial assistance program, and providing professional development, training and support to our region?s early childhood educators since 1981. The organization also operates a licensed child care center for families needing child care in the late afternoon and evening hours. In 2012 Windham Child Care Association acquired the county?s bookmobile mobile program and now offers literacy activities for children and early childhood educators though onsite visits of the Early Learning Express.
