Prosecutors: More Victims Come Forward In Church Molestation Probe

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Geary County prosecutors say nine more victims have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse in a scandal that continues to unfold at a Junction City church.

Jordan Young, 25, is facing a number of child molestation charges in four separate cases involving four separate victims stemming from an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Junction City where he had been serving as the music minister. His charges include Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Aggravated Intimidation of a Victim, Criminal Sodomy, Aggravated Indecent Liberties With a Child and Attempted Criminal Sodomy.

Young appeared in Geary County District Court Thursday for a status hearing on his four cases. Camera access was denied by the judge. Young's mother and wife were in the courtroom for the proceedings.

The hearing was continued because according to the state, the church probe continues to develop and Young could face more charges in connection with nine other victims that have come forward. That would bring the total to 13 victims.

Assistant Geary County Attorney Michelle Brown told the judge that the state is also waiting to receive test results from the KBI who is testing close to 40 pieces of evidence, looking for DNA. Police confirm that the KBI is assisting Junction City and Geary County authorities in the investigation.

Brown tells WIBW that all of the victims that have come forward with allegations against Jordan Young are underage males. When asked if the alleged crimes took place at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church or at the church's school, the Apostolic Academy on Rucker Road in Junction City, or both, Brown said she could not comment, saying only that the reported sexual abuse occurred in Geary County. Young would have had access to both facilities. Brown says the alleged assaults on the boys occurred over the course of several years but some of the cases are also recent.

Jordan Young is being held in the Geary County Jail on $1 million bond.

He's scheduled to appear in court for another status hearing on October 11, 2012 at 9 AM.

Jordan Young is the son of former Faith Tabernacle pastor Edwin Young, who reportedly recently and abruptly resigned. Sources close to Faith Tabernacle say Edwin Young took a significant amount of money from the church when he resigned before his son was arrested and now, his whereabouts are unknown. When asked about Edwin Young and if he is part of the police investigation at the church, Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown said he had no comment.

Junction City police have consulted with the FBI, Brown said.

"The investigation into the matter is continuing. I have two detectives assigned to it. We continue to look into it and follow all leads on that. We?re still interviewing people and when we complete it, obviously we?ll present all of our evidence to the County Attorney?s Office for them to review it and to make a determination as to whether or not charges will be filed," the police chief told WIBW.

"There?s children involved and so it?s very important that we protect their identities and that we complete our investigation before we start discussing further facts about this. The case is ongoing and when it?s ongoing like that we just are not comfortable details about who we?re investigating and what we?re investigating," he added.
